Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has received the most votes among non-quarterbacks in Pro Bowl fan balloting, the NFL announced Wednesday.
Peterson received 948,410 votes. New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady led all players with more than 1.8 million votes.
Among NFC players, only Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick (1.5 million) and New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees (971,731) received more votes than Peterson. Besides Brady, the AFC quarterbacks with more fan votes than Peterson were Indianapolis' Peyton Manning (1.1 million) and San Diego's Philip Rivers (1.03 million).
Peterson, the NFL's third-leading rusher with 1,016 yards, missed Monday's game against Chicago because of a thigh injury that also sidelined him from Wednesday's practice.
A record 98.59 million votes were cast on NFL.com, on wireless phones and on Facebook, according to the league. Pro Bowl teams for the NFC and AFC are based on votes from fans, players and coaches, with each group counting one third toward filling the 43-player rosters for each squad.
Players and coaches were to vote Wednesday and today. The teams will be announced Tuesday.
Favre, Peterson update: Quarterback Brett Favre did not practice Wednesday, and his status for Sunday's game at Philadelphia remains unclear.
Favre suffered a concussion during the second quarter of Monday night's 40-14 loss to the Chicago Bears and has not passed his baseline neurological examination, coach Leslie Frazier said.
"If he gets cleared by our doctors, then things will change, but until he's cleared there isn't much that can be done other than whatever the doctors recommend," Frazier said.
Peterson also is being monitored closely. He was injured Dec. 13 against the Giants when he and quarterback Tarvaris Jackson collided in the backfield.
"Very, very sore, lots of pain, and it makes it difficult to turn, twist and do the things Adrian Peterson does," Frazier said.
If Favre can't play Sunday, the Vikings plan to start rookie Joe Webb, with journeyman Patrick Ramsey backing him up and this week's acquisition, Rhett Bomar, as the No. 3 quarterback.
The Vikings signed Bomar off the New York Giants' practice squad, where he spent the past two seasons after playing collegiately at Sam Houston State.
"It's going to be a tough process," Bomar said Wednesday. "I've never been in this system before. I've only been in one system. It's not like I bounced around. The only thing I knew is what the Giants did."
Leber recognized: Linebacker Ben Leber earned the 2010 Korey Stringer Good Guy Award from Twin Cities media.
The award, named after the late offensive tackle, is presented each year to the Vikings player voted most cooperative by reporters who cover the team. Leber is one of the most thoughtful players to interview and always is available to answer tough questions.
"It's an honor to get this award named after (Stringer) and after his family," Leber said.
Injury update II: Safeties Madieu Williams (concussion) and Tyrell Johnson (knee) did not practice.
