The Minnesota Vikings took a gamble on the former Florida Gator star Percy Harvin with a first round draft pick last spring. Havrin had mostly played running back in his career with Florida with some receiving as a secondary option. If Harvin couldn't become a receiver, he would be a total bust. Beyond his question marks on becoming a capable receiver, Harvin also had other issues when coming into the NFL.
The other two question marks about Harvin was for one he had a history of drug use. Secondly, he has a long history of migraine headaches.
Proving His Doubters Wrong
So far, in Harvin's career he has posted fabulous numbers as a receiver and as a kickoff returner. For the season, Harvin already has 681 yards receiving and six touchdown catches.
Not only has Harvin done a fine job as a receiver, but he has almost 1,000 yards in total kickoff yardage and a 29.0 yards per return average. Not to mention that he has returned two of his 34 attempts for touchdowns.
This solid performance is going to make Harvin the hands down rookie of the year for 2009.
Beyond Harvin's success on the field he has not had any notible problems with off the field conduct. This is an area that Harvin may backslide into later in his career but for now everything is good.
Migraines Still a Problem
The last of three concern area's for Harvin has unfortunately turned out to be legit and that is his migraine issues.
Harvin has suffered migraine problems since middle school and has continued to have problems since being a Viking.
This week Harvin has been troubled all week by migraine issues and has missed practice because of it. Not only did Harvin miss practice, but he also had problems studying the play book for this week's game against the Bengals.
Because of this it is unlikely that Harvin will in this weekends big clash between to playoffs bound teams.
Look for the Vikings to throw the football more often to Bernard Berrian and Visanthe Shaincoe this weekend.
