The Heisman Memorial Trophy Award (often known simply as the Heisman Trophy or The Heisman), named after former college football player and coach John Heisman, is awarded annually to the most outstanding collegiate football player in the U.S. Although not the only award honoring the best player in college football, it is considered the most prestigious individual player honor in American college football. It is awarded in December before the postseason bowl games.

2007 - 2008 Heisman Trophy Watch
This is how Brian Kelly see's the race as of Sept 25th
1. Darren McFadden, Arkansas
Darren McFadden has been in the Heisman pole position all season and has done nothing wrong in Arkansas' three games to move him out of that spot. The junior running back is on pace for over 2,000 yards, a total that would dwarf his stats from last season, when he finished second in the balloting. One thing that could be working against McFadden is his team. At 1-2, the Hogs will need to start winning more games to keep McFadden ahead of candidates who have teams in the BCS race.
2. Tim Tebow, Florida
Tebow has been a one-man wrecking crew on a Florida team that is averaging over 49 points per game. Where there were once questions about Tebow's throwing ability, there are now answers as the left-hander is ranked No. 3 in the country in passing efficiency. And, of course, we haven't talked about Tebow's forte: running. The Gator is No. 3 in rushing among QB, averaging 90 yards a game and scoring seven touchdowns.
3. Andre' Woodson, Kentucky
Woodson has raised his status over the last two weeks with stellar performances against Louisville and Arkansas, guiding Kentucky to its first Top 25 poll appearance since 1984. The Wildcats QB rarely makes mistakes as evidenced by his NCAA-record of pass attempts without an interception. Also not hurting his cause is his pro potential. Woodson is considered to be one of the top senior QBs for the 2008 draft.
4. Steve Slaton, West Virginia
While McFadden is on pace for a ton of rushing yards, Steve Slaton is scoring TDs by the bushel. With nine TDs on the ground (not to mention one receiving), the West Virginia running back is on pace for 27 scores on the season. What could hurt Slaton's campaign are his running mates. Quarterback Pat White is also a Heisman hopeful, and freshman back Noel Devine is averaging over 11 yards per carry for the Mountaineers.
5. Ray Rice, Rutgers
Ray Rice has only played in three games this season, causing his overall numbers to fall behind some of the other leading running backs. That said, the Rutgers back is still second in the nation in rushing touchdowns and averaging 5.8 yards per carry. The schedule does pick up in the coming weeks with four undefeated (for now) teams on the horizon.
