UCLA To Play In Las Vegas Bowl

For the third time in six years, UCLA will be heading to Sin City to play in the Las Vegas Bowl. The Bruins will meet BYU, who they played earlier this season, and beat 27-17 in the Rose Bowl in September... But other factors were in play -- or in Georgia's case, not in play -- when the Rose Bowl brokered the New Year's Day date between USC and Illinois.

The UCLA football team has been selected to play in the 2007 Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl. The Bruins will face Brigham Young of the Mountain West Conference. The game is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 22 at UNLV's Sam Boyd Stadium. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m. (PST) and the game will be televised nationally by ESPN.
The Bruins finished the regular season with a record of 6-6 overall and were tied for fourth place in the Pac-10 (5-4). Brigham Young finished 10-2 and won the Mountain West Conference with an 8-0 mark.
"We have certainly enjoyed our two previous trips to the Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl," said athletic director Dan Guerrero. "Our players and staff have thoroughly enjoyed themselves at the various events and the hospitality of Tina Kunzer-Murphy and her staff is second to none. We encourage our fans to come to Las Vegas to support their Bruins."
"UCLA is extremely happy to be playing in the Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl," said head coach Karl Dorrell. "Tina Kunzer-Murphy and her committee do a fantastic job of making the bowl experience first-class for the players and we are looking forward to facing an outstanding opponent in BYU."
UCLA played in the Las Vegas Bowl in 2002, defeating New Mexico, 27-13, and in 2004, losing to Wyoming, 24-21.
UCLA and BYU have eight times on the football field with UCLA holding a 7-1 lead. On Sept. 8, the Bruins defeated the Cougars, 27-17 at the Rose Bowl.
