Ryan Longwell's 34-year-old right leg hasn't lost any strength.
His 54-yard boot against Jacksonville last week was overshadowed in a decisive victory over the Jaguars. But the Minnesota Vikings
kicker set a team record with the kick. It was his fourth field goal of 50 yards or longer for him already this season with five
games to go. The previous record was three.
Longwell says he may be 34, but he feels no signs of slowing down. He wants to keep kicking for several more years. He says the
key to his success isn't necessarily based on pure leg strength. For him it's all about kicking the ball in the sweet spot to send
it flying.
Coach Brad Childress says he loves the consistency Longwell has showed in his time with the Vikings.
This year Longwell is 25-for-25 on extra points and 22-for-26 on field goals.
